Marvel Heroes such as Loki and Scarlet Witch to come to Disney Streaming Service

The arrival of Disney’s new streaming service is one of the most hotly discussed topics in the entertainment world.  For years Netflix has dominated the streaming market.  Amazon is making huge pushes to gain ground in this arena.  There is even talk coming from the recent AT&T / Time Warner merger that HBO will start ramping up on volume of content, rather than just quality.

If there was ever a company that was well positioned to produce its own streaming service, it is Disney.  When it comes to streaming services, there are two options, licensing content or making original content.  For a long time services such as Netflix relied on licensing content but eventually realized that anyone can license content.  Having your own content, which is exclusive to your service, that people can’t live without, is the key to having a thriving subscriber base, and when it comes to original content, Disney is king.

Owners of Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar.  Even if those were the only 3 families of content Disney owned, they could still have enormous potential, but when you add in the rest of Disney’s portfolio and then imagine everything they got from the recent Fox deal, Disney is simply a gold mine of in demand content.  They don’t have to struggle like Netflix and Amazon to gin up interest for original properties.

So, there has been much chatter regarding what Disney is actually planning to put on its service and the answer seems to be a lot.  Not content to simply put up back-catalog titles, Disney is making a big push at exclusive content.  The news that Loki, Scarlet Witch, and other marvel hotshots are going to have exclusive content in Disney’s new streaming service is gargantuan news.

We are not talking about Marvel characters in low budget spin-offs played by nobody actors.  According to the rumor mill, we are talking about Loki played by Tom Hiddleston; Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Olsen.  This is huge.  Stars of the largest blockbusters in the planet to have exclusive content for the streaming service.

Details are obviously sparse and Disney has obviously declined to comment, but the current thought is that these will be series ranging from six to eight episodes.  They will be produced by Marvel Studios with Kevin Feige having a hands-on role.  Could there be a more compelling reason to get people to subscribe to the Disney streaming service?
